about

Produced by Toft Willingham of Spiritual Rez and recorded in Milford, MA at 9B Studio, “Fruit of Life” features six diverse songs, ranging from the country-tinged “Nashville (Drink Till 4 AM)” to a cover of Rochester reggae band Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad – which Marissa translated from English into French. The sound of the album is warm, yet sparkling; punchy, yet gentle. According to 9B Studios recording engineer Brian Silver, “Working with Marissa and her band was a wonderful experience. She has an open and creative mind.”

Leader, singer, and songwriter and New York native Marissa started the group after being inspired by friends including Tubby Love, Sam Ravenna Emily Elbert, and Liz Longley. Born with two physical disabilities, Marissa finds fulfillment and self-expression by writing and performing with her band. “When I write, I feel like I’m sharing a whole other part of myself that even I didn’t know was inside me.” Her song “Freebird” documents her transition from the insular community in which she grew up to the wider world of Boston. Her songs suggest influences ranging from Joni Mitchell to Bob Marley. Each composition spotlights a different facet of Marissa’s free spirit.
